BAS Technologies for Facility Managers

Building automation system (BAS) technology first appeared about 35 years ago and performed a few basic functions like turning the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system on and off. Dedicated mainframe microcomputers operated these systems and used pneumatics to perform simple tasks. Today, the development of microprocessors, direct digital control, personal computers, and other technologies give facility managers the power to manage building performance and impact the bottom line.

The article, Automation For HVAC, And More, by Neil Maldeis, in Today’s Facility Manager, discusses how current and next generation BAS technologies enable high performance buildings that offer increased energy efficiency, cost less to operate, and provide a better indoor environment for occupants. Learn about the role that BAS can play in a high performance building approach that links your organization’s mission to critical financial and operational objectives.

Trane experts have helped thousands of customers take the next steps to adopting a high performance building approach and gain the benefits this approach can deliver. Reach out to your local Trane office today to learn more. Click here to contact us!

Trane Building Controls: What’s New This Spring

New products. Enhanced features. Added functionality.

Technology is never static and at Trane, our building controls are certainly no exception. They’re in a continuous state of development. We’ll make a few tweaks here. Add some new features there. Every step forward is a move toward a simplified user experience—and greater control over building efficiency.

It’s been a busy spring for controls developers at Trane. Here are a few highlights of the new controls features we released this spring…

Trane® Wireless Comm
A cost-effective and convenient alternative to our BACnet® MS/TP wired communication links, Wireless Comm eliminates wires between BACnet-based system controllers, unit controllers and zone sensors. The lack of wires reduces installed cost and brings greater flexibility to device placement for both new construction and retrofits.

Tracer™ SC
New user interface includes many new and improved features.
For example…

  • Productivity enhancements with improved support for mobile devices, browser compatibility and globalization

Tracer ES™ Express
New Windows® based solution features productivity improvements with…

  • Simplified installation and set-up within the Windows operating system
  • Turnkey packaged systems, including installed software, monitor, keyboard and      mouse

Tracer ES™
Custom reporting capabilities expanded to include a new scatterplot graph option for creating custom reports as well as other new custom reporting options…

Mobile
Tracer™ BAS Operator Suite received a number of enhancements increasing your on-the-go productivity.

Expanded BACnet compliance
All new Tracer controls are now BTL compliant and certified.

At Trane, we’re always working on the next big thing in building efficiency.

Trane Chiller Sets Industry Benchmark for Energy Efficiency

The Stealth air-cooled chiller, from Ingersoll Rand brand Trane, uses a compressor design that helps it deliver peak efficiency under all operating conditions. This gives the chiller the capability of up to 12.1 energy efficiency ratio (EER). The design also delivers up to 20 integrated part-load value (IPLV) to drive lower overall electrical consumption and ensure energy savings across typical operating conditions.

The chillers is available in 150-300 ton capacity ranges.  The line is designed for industry-leading combination part-load and full-load efficiencies and the lowest published sound levels for an air-cooled chiller in the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning industry.

The chiller’s AdaptiSpeed technology integrates a direct-drive, specific-speed screw compressor, permanent-magnet motors, and third-generation Trane Adaptive Frequency Drive (AFD3).

New compact, high-performance, integrated, low-charge (CHIL) evaporator technology optimizes refrigerant flow for improved efficiency and better heat transfer performance, while using up to 40% less refrigerant than traditional flooded designs.
